Substitution

When you don't have another "e" to finish making your name, I suppose you use the next best thing!

I don't know why I'm always surprised by how busy the middle of the week is, but it kicked me hard this time around. In protest I'm refusing to think about work and instead focusing on trying to figure out the best (but still reasonably priced) way to finish the petticoat, and trying to decide whether I like this fabric with this pattern (most likely view A). Thoughts?

  1. Mostest has been LOVING his leapfrog letter thingy! I love watching him pick a letter and then put it in to hear what letter it is and what sounds it makes! :)

That is a super cute dress pattern! I would like to be able to sew that kind of stuff someday... but first I need a sewing machine LOL

Speaking of sewing machines, any recommendations for an affordable, dependable one for a newbie?

  2. I'm definitely not a machine expert, but I can tell you what I have sewn on:

My machine is a Janome and I really love it. There was a bit of a learning curve with learning to set stitch lengths and all that, but that's true of all machines in my experience. There are some basic Janome models that are very affordable. I went a step up with my machine on my mom's recommendation.

I've also sewn on a Pfaff and I grew up sewing on my mom's Bernina. They were both nice machines too. From what I've heard the machines available at Walmart and Target are very cheap versions of better machine- basically the inside parts are made of cheaper materials and they do not last very long. I've never sewn on one, so I can't say for sure, and while it was more expensive to buy my machine it's running great a few years later and will continue to do so unless I do something awful to the machine.
