Yarn Along

{Yarning Along with Ginny again this week}

I think I'm out of my reading rut now and I have Legend by Marie Lu to thank for it. It has been a really fun read! I'm not done with it quite yet, but it did inspire a few more titles to read after I'm done so I'm well stocked.

Yes, that stripey thing you see is another sock. If you're keeping count with me this is the THIRD one this year and I'm already 1/3 of the way through the foot. It's my "knit a row here and there" project that hangs out in my purse and goes everywhere.

And the lavender? That's the Pearl Shrug that I started around Christmas. It has been in timeout for a few weeks for refusing to cast on properly when it came time for the left side. Now that we've worked out our differences it's back to happy knitting.

Please tell me I'm not the only one to give my knitting time-outs! Sometimes I just need to take a break so I can regain some perspective before tackling a problem. I usually have about three attempts in me before I lock a project away for awhile. A lot of times I can then come back and actually solve the issue (and often wonder why I had that weird problem in the first place...)

Do you give your knitting time-outs?

  1. Yes, I have a baby sweater that is sitting in a basket because it has be a little stumped. One day when I am not too busy I will pick the sweater back up and hopefully finish.
I have a sock that goes everywhere with me and it's amazing how much gets done on it during the day!
    Happy Yarn Along!

  2. I have put very disappointed items in the closet for six months or so, then I ripped them out. You can never ever knit too many socks, it's impossible!!

  3. I totally take knitting time outs. I just found a scarf that I was two or three rows from finishing four or five years ago. Then there are the times when I don't knit at all. Your socks look wonderful!

  4. Yep, knitting goes into timeout occasionally. And then I decide whether it gets to come back out or needs to be benched for longer or retired completely ;)

Your sock knitting is impressive, I'm a lot slower even though I wish I had millions of pairs already!

  5. pinkundine, I'm a fast-ish knitter when I have the time to knit, but socks have been a serious sticking point for me for a few years now (that's why I'm so impressed with myself for already being on to number 3!).

  6. Oh, yes! My knitting has suffered many a time-out. I've even launched it across the room.

  7. I have been working lately on a sweater for little Leo for a year now. It is dark brown with pale blue trim. I do NOT knit in summer. And so I picked up the pattern and wool (which I love!) and started once more after Christmas. Two problems arose. The directions for the hood were outlandishly big so I had to remove many inches. UGH! Then the front pocket lining was also too long and needed work. As I worked along, many stitches got dropped and I was mighty frustrated. The whole project narrowly missed being thrown into the fireplace. I'm back on track today.

  8. Love the sock color...they will be so cozy when they are done! (I take time-outs with lots of things and knitting is definitely one of them :)

  9. Yes, to knitting time-outs. And sometimes those time-outs come at very inconvenient moments. Socks are difficult to do - such tiny stitches with thin yarn and then when one is done, the other needs to follow (unless you're doing them 2 at a time)and wouldn't it be more 'fun' to try a new project? At least that's what I tell myself...

  10. Big yes to giving projects a time-out! Sometimes they and I just aren't on the same page and something needs a change. Sewing projects, books, all sorts of stuff need breaks from time to time. It's nice when you can work it out and get happily back to it :)

  12. I take time-outs for sure. In fact with socks I often have to take a break right after I turn the heel. It's that take-a-breath and get-ready thing.

  13. Some of my knitting has been in time out for five years! Lovely colour for your shrug - I made that last year. Loved it!
