Making Stuff

I had plans for this week.

I was excited to have extra time to write, to photograph and share a few recent knitted FO's, and perhaps start to get the kids back to our normal schedule.

The thing is, there's regular life, plus unexpected life and then there's "wow- I can't even believe how tired I am..." that leads you to fall asleep the second the baby does at three in the afternoon but be wide awake from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Can you tell it's been awhile since we've had a new baby in the house? I mean, I knew this is how life with a little one goes (after all we've done it twice before...) but I forgot exactly how it is each day.

What we're all needing right now is some creative time, so we decided to completely ditch the plans for getting back to regular life and start today on a long weekend dedicated to "making stuff". We spent this morning making some lists of potential projects to choose from, getting organized and printing off a few things to start with.

A bit of our inspiration:

Cubbees (starting with Wall-E for Ender and Batman for Ezra)

Zippered pouches (for project bags)

New Knits

I've been on a pretty strict "stay in bed" schedule since Ellie's birth (and maybe into next week too), so when I'm not nursing this little girl or sleeping I'm knitting. I have to stay busy somehow, right? I finished up another little cardigan for Ellie and a hat that will fit perfectly this fall/winter. After looking at a few potential projects I decided that I'm still not quite up to lace or anything super complicated at the moment. I'm sticking with some good old garter stitch until I'm off these meds and my iron levels pick up a little bit more.
Current Knits:

On Hold (just for a bit):

I finished a ton of projects in the 2 or 3 weeks before Ellie was born but haven't had a chance for good photos. I'm hoping to get those all photographed in the next few weeks once I'm back on my feet so that I can get them posted here. After all, one of my goals this year is to really keep track of my finished knits.

I've also been working on queueing up my next few knits. It's so hard to decide sometimes! Do I go with the practical cardigan that I really need and know I'll wear all the time but might be less exciting to knit or do I start on the rainbow-y cowl I want to have ready for next fall? Am I finally ready for a more complicated sock? Perhaps, but maybe not. Another baby knit or take a break from the tiny knits to make something more me-sized?

How do you choose your next project?
