Midnight Fiber and Fabric Podcast, Episode 9: In the Garden

Upcoming Events include Knit in Public Day and Maker Faire Kansas City.

This week I worked on my Mom's Socks up to the heel turns, started Another Sock for myself, and began section 7 on My Earth Death Citron while I forced my boys into a Mother's Day viewing of Princess Bride!!! I also worked on my You Are My Sunshine baby hat (pictures to come, when there is something to show).

I spun a few longer sessions this week, and I'm almost ready to ply. I'm planning to watch the Gentle Art of Plying by Judith Mackenzie before I ply. I also finally got my own copy of Spinner's Book of Yarn Design by Sarah Anderson.

We're in the garden this week, including the kids! Here are some of our favorite family gardening books:

I got my copy of Preserving by the Pint by Marissa McClellan and it's organized by the season! LOVE! I also updated my progress through the Sizing Knitwear Patterns Craftsy Class and referenced Shapely Boyfriend by Stefanie Japel.

FO: Comicon Socks

The Comicon Socks are done, and for about 3 days I had NO socks on the needles, even though I had 4 sets of DPNs open.

That was a little strange.

I really like how the colors worked out on these fraternal socks, and so glad to add another warm pair to the sock drawer for next fall.

I cast on for socks for my mom Monday night, and right now there is just a foot. I'm going to check size with her later this morning, then go on to work the heel if my gauge and math skills came together in a friendly way. Once the math is all worked out the other 3 socks planned for her will go fantastically. Right?

I'm mostly reading the Sjogren's Syndrome Survival Guide this past (busy) week, but a little bit of The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon before bed if I'm awake long enough.

Gray Day Inspiration

It's gray and yucky today as it has been for much of April, and this day that was supposed to be empty just got full... so how about a little inspiration?

: : Sarah Mackenzie started a new podcast, the Readaloud Revival! Her first guest is Andrew Pudewa of IEW and they talk about reading with older kids.

: : I've been looking for a few pieces of equipment for my knitting/spinning studio- a bobbin winder, a ball winder, a swift, a niddy noddy.... and I was referred to Fiber Artist Supply. Their pieces are so beautiful and I'm loving the price range! Now to acquire what I need before Tour de Fleece starts.

: : I just keep pinning embroidery things. Maybe if I pin a lot I won't buy a lot. I have so many other projects to do before adding embroidery to the group... but there are so many beautiful things!

: : I think I'm choosing to do hats and mitts for the new little niece due soon. Now to choose the patterns... Hat Options include: Lacy Julian Hat, Baby Amanda Hat, Barley, Simple Newborn Hat

: : I cast on toe-up socks last night and watched Cat Bordhi's video on the figure 8 "magic" cast on. It's a little rough, but hilarious and her little saying to remember the steps did stick in my head.

: :  I'm trying to decide on paint colors... colors for the studio, for the kids' bathroom, for the laundry room, the inside of the coat closet- four places that need brightened up. What color do you paint the inside of a coat closet that gets banged up with cleats and shoes and random stuff the kids throw in there? I'm about to paint the whole house white, but that's not good either.

Midnight Fiber and Fabric Podcast, Episode 7: Wild Variegation

In this episode I share a pair of finished socks, ask for ball winder and swift recommendations, and talk about patterns that do well with "wildly variegated" yarns. I also talk about preparing to spin for a sweater with the Knitmore Girl's SPAKAL project, building my creative space, a few favorites from this week and my progress with a Craftsy class.
